Birgit Freybe Bateman

Besides many gallery shows, Birgit Freybe Bateman has had several museum exhibits in North America. But the most prestigious exhibit of her career opened at the Stroganov Palace in St. Petersburg under the auspices of the State Russian Museum on June 1, 2011 and is on display until August 31, 2011.

As succinctly summarized by Dr. E. N. Petrova, Deputy Director at the State Russian Museum, “The essence of Birgit Freybe Bateman’s photographs is not the subjects in the traditional sense, which contain narration, but the motifs dictated by the expressive forms of objects, fragments and details. Their intense “elastic” imagery draws a similarity between these photographs and oil paintings.”

Entitled MINDFUL VISION, the photographs examine themes of colors and textures, nature and its patterns, and people. Her images reveal her delight in all she sees around her and an intense observation of detail.
