By attention to detail, and a reverence for her subject matter, Amy Melious works to create images that expand the experience of a photograph into a world of poetry, memory, and possibility.
Primarily self-taught, she combines traditional and alternative photographic techniques, often with the addition of hand-painting, to weave an intuitive visual language of color, gesture and mood.
Raised in the Redwood forests of Northern California, nature provided a powerful source of creative inspiration, and became a touchstone for her life.
Amy’s work has been an intimate study of the world around her, with an emphasis on flowers, landscapes, still life, portraiture and travel scenes.
Amy has enjoyed a livelihood as a full time working artist for over twenty years, while raising a family in rural Northern California, and Salt Spring Island.
