Birgit Freybe-Bateman 2019

The photography of Birgit Freybe Bateman is part of her history and an extension of her life. She has been serious about it for many decades, taking black and white photos along the railway ties and the street near her father’s sausage factory in E. Vancouver in the early 1960’s. Nothing escapes her notice. She sees artistic possibilities in small bits of the world that most people would pass by without noticing. If you immerse yourself in her photos, you will come away with new eyes. This was driven home when she had a one woman show of 67 images at the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg from June 1 to the end of September, 2011. Due to popular demand and long lineups, it was held over for an extra month.
