Graduating with the top portfolio award from the Hallmark Institute of Photography (Massachusetts, USA) in 1986 Harnisch returned to his hometown of Vancouver. At that time he created portraits and pursued personal photo-essays of children. When Save the Children of BC asked him to document the lives of children in the war-torn country of El Salvador he jumped at the opportunity. Other assignments followed including: Children with Cancer at a hospice in Mexico City; Premature infants in BC Children’s Hospital; Street-kids in Vancouver; Children and Youth in Jamaican; Children in Dance; and Aboriginal youth at Powwows throughout British Columbia. His corporate sponsorships have come from Canadian Airlines International, Japan Airlines, and Hasselblad USA. He published a coffee-table book of his images, ‘Children: From the Heart’, and his work has been featured in photographic magazines in Spain, Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara. Peter currently lives with his family on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia (Canada), where he specializes in creating photographs of people.
