Elehna de Sousa

My artistic process, much like my life, has been multi-faceted and exploratory. I was born and raised in HongKong, of Goan parentage, and came to Canada in 1967 for higher studies.

In 1990, on one of my adventures, I travelled to Salt Spring Island, attracted by the catchy name, and within a space of 2 days bought a piece of land that I was equally enchanted with.  It took another 13 years before I was able to move here on a permanent basis, proving, in my case, that patience does pay off in the end!

I feel blessed to be in a place where I am continually inspired by my environment and where I can immerse myself in my creative passion for art, photography and the poetic forms of haiku and tanka.

My photographic subject matter is varied, inspired by ordinary moments of everyday life; it is special moments like these, and the camera’s ability to capture their essence, that move my spirit, often taking me beyond the purely visual to a timeless place where the mystery and wonder of daily life is realized.
