Birgit Freybe Bateman 2017

Besides many gallery shows, Birgit Freybe Bateman has had several museum exhibits in North America. But the most prestigious exhibit of her career opened at the Stroganov Palace in St. Petersburg under the auspices of the State Russian Museum on June 1, 2011, and was slated to run for 3 months, but was extended to 4 months due to the high interest.

The description “nothing escapes her notice” is most apt for her work. Her images reveal her delight in all she sees and an intense observation of detail. Through her photography, she is constantly searching for surprise juxtapositions of contemporary machine-made plastic objects and more organic handmade ones.
