Fairlight by Starlight
Chris Stackhouse
In February 2001 a couple of days into a two week prairie photo shoot, I found myself a few miles from the Saskatchewan/Manitoba border with no hotel or motel in sight. Not wishing to spend time traveling to look for accommodation I decided to stay the night in the town of Fairlight near Moosomin. Having a propane heater in my van made for a warm night and a chance to photograph the dawn light easily.
Problem was the propane only lasted until 3.00am. Awake, I noticed how clear the sky was so I decided to photograph the towns last wooden grain elevator by starlight, the resulting image was taken using an 8 minute exposure with partial illumination from a couple of street lights.
