George Pompidou Centre, Paris

Roger Brooks

I took this photo approx. 1978 on a trip to Paris shortly after the centre was opened. I was a civil engineer at the time and it was before I changed careers to become a professional photographer. The camera I used was a Contax SLR with a 50mm Zeiss lens & I was mainly shooting B&W.

Of the photos I took this was one that stood out for me as a very graphic image which showed the contrast between old & new. The seated woman seems very unconcerned with her surroundings & is purely concentrating on her writing.
This quiet area was also in contrast to the rest of the building which was packed with people viewing the galleries.
