When I moved to the valley I found myself constantly facing the iconic profile of Mount Maxwell. Photographing it, for me, preserves the aura of that initial awe. In the digital viewfinder one gets used to the idea that “If I trip the shutter, this is what I’ll get.” I began using the flash as a way of recreating the alchemy of working with film—only by taking the shot do I discover what it is.
